I'm thinking of making a batch up myself. You know they call Chicken Soup Jewish Penicillin don't you! :) ridn4free 12-13-2010, 23:34 I have mentioned this before as I have usually every year at deer camp is chicken and dumplings. this is so easy its a crime get 4 cans of chicken broth, one can of chicken meat, and bring to boil then cut up 4 large flour burritos in one inch squares and add them into the broth, done. I have the burritos pre cut so its so easy and good at the same time BigFoot 12-14-2010, 07:05 Sounds great... lifestudent55 12-14-2010, 07:22 You know they call Chicken Soup Jewish Penicillin don't you! :) Yes I did. There's a good reason too. Something about the schmaltz that just seems to drive a cold out.:) I did this the old fashioned way. I put a bunch of chicken thighs, onion, carrots, celery, sea salt, thyme, and bay leaves covered with water in a stock pot and let it simmer a few hours. Then I pulled the bay leaves and deboned the chicken, putting the meat back in the stock. For the noodles I just mixed 3 eggs with four to make a very stiff dough, then rolled it out very thing and cut it into 3" long strips. One note here, the noodles are a lot longer and wider after cooking. I brought the soup to a boil, then slowly added the noodles and cooked till they were done. Add salt and pepper to taste, then ladle it up. BigFoot 12-14-2010, 09:09 Well, you really did prepare it all from scratch didn't you. I do about the same for my chicken soup but I haven't tried making the noodles yet. I put those little pasta stars in mine most of the time.Dang, now I really am thinking of making me up a batch...:) lifestudent55 12-14-2010, 09:18 I prefer the texture of homemade noodles. This way I also know everything that's in the soup. CCW822 12-14-2010, 09:43 Life, my wife makes it the same way, and it is some of the best soup i have ever eaten. |
