Had a male fawn dead in the yard the other morning. No signs of trauma. Anything going on here as far as disease? Deer looked healthy, other than not breathing.

A friend found one the other day that seemed "paralyzed" in it's hind quarters...loaded it up and took him to the vet..vet seemed to think that it was from too many tick bites...and that some times the fawns are temporarily disabled when their immune systems go into overdrive?
Long story short the little guy perked up and was released back into the woods where he came from..hopping and skipping all the way....

wonder where in Randolph County that was? My neighbor has captive deer that he is planning to market the deer pee etc from....currently, they are just in a large holding type pen...hmmm not sure I have seen them lately now that I think about it....

Found a nice 7pt at my place in freeburg sunday afternoon dead still in velvet, and the deer looked to be perfectly healthy.I was told it maybe had blue tongue disease, is this the same as EHD?

Saw a nice doe dead today by the neighbors pond. The local Case dealer stopped by and said one of his mechanics had found 14 over the weekend dead while bow hunting.

Wow this is bad news. Where was this at?

I found 3 dead this weekend. 2 of them were laying next to one of our small ponds on our 85 acres in hamilton county.

I didn't realize Herman even had a pond...I guess he has the old Huff home place over by Swanwick?
BTW Smoke - I keep forgetting to ask you or your Dad..there's a brand spanking new tree stand out at the lake..I'm thinking it isn't one of you guys, and I have sneaking feeling it's not one that Mr. Geggie would want back there...it's right on the very edge of reids property, but unless I am wrong about the property lines, it's not on their ground..up on top where they are digging the new lake..

I could be wrong about the property lines though..so much has changed hands out there...

I called the project manager this morning and reported the dead deer to him. It only took a few minutes. I think it is a good idea to keep them informed so that they can keep an eye on it.

Here is what the press release says about calling...
Landowners or hunters who witness a deer exhibiting signs of EHD, especially near a creek or pond, can assist agency efforts to monitor the extent of the disease by reporting it to IDNR Deer Project Manager Tom Micetich at (309) 543-3316, extension 231.
