Well, good to be back with all my fellow Sillinoisians! I was up for another fishin trip with my buddy from Alabama. The same guy I fished the Terrapin Creek with in Al, this past Spring. This time we decided to head into Missouri and the Eleven Point River. What a great trip! Rainbow trout and feisty smallmouths were abundant, and people weren't. We floated and fished from Tuesday last week til Friday. Then we were both home with the fams for the long weekend. (We plan to try to make everyone happy) LOL. BUT I disconnected for a week. No internet!!! OMG you say... it can't be done... Who will monitor my facebook page? What about my fantasy draft? The e-mails will pile up... SILO might just explode!!! But guess what? It didn't. I might suggest that some of you may need to disconnect from the WWW for at least a weekend. I know most all of you on here remember life before idiot boxes and cell phones. (That I couldn't get away from darnit) Well come some Friday shut it down and vow that you won't log on for at least the weekend. I promise it will all still be there when you get back. Todays world is rife with instant gratification. And it is great that we have the web as a resource, but step away occasionally... and ... (yep you guessed it) GO OUTSIDE!!!

(Pics and vids to come from the trip.):)

Bob, I know what you mean about being away from www for awhile, I do it on a regular basis, last weekend for example. this place is great, but it is not my life, theres way too much to do than be on the keyboard and mouse all the time. I hear of the generation growing up and how much time they spend on the web and it just amazes me. I would miss it if it were gone, but would definitely survive, have for most of my life.

My stepdaughter can't live without her video games, and neither can her daughter. Last month we were taking my 7 year old granddaughter out on the boat fishing with us and she couldn't understand why she had to leave her portable video game behind. Her mom said it was insured as though dropping it in the water was my only concern. I was concerned about a kid who needed to learn to unplug. My daughter, on the other hand, may have a laptop with her, but she does unplug and go without the internet. Her kids are growing up with a much healthier lifestyle, physically (from eating real food and getting exercise), mentally (from not being plugged in all the time) and spiritually (same reason).

With regards to life's post,

Interesting how much easier older folks can give up the "net". Of course my family didn't even have a tv until I was 5 years old.

My folks are completely unplugged. They watch some DVDs, but since the switch to digital their antenna is next to useless. They can't get cable where they live, and both cable and satellite are out of their budget since Dad retired. They do have a phone, and that's it. The only place in their house I could get any cell phone reception is upstairs, and that is very iffy. With the advent of personal computers Dad went from being on the cutting edge of technology to being a Luddite. It's very relaxing there.

The highlight of my week was going to my sisters to watch disney ! In color of all things!
Staying "unplugged" for een a little bit is why I refuse to get a "smart phone" I can't get away from it enough as it is.
I just don't feel the need to be connected all the time.

Actually I think the internet, smart phones, FB and the like have given us a generation with an extreme case of self importance and a failure to be able to appreciate any thing that doesn't beep or blink.

Same thing as you with the smart phone. I broke my phone and had to go buy a new one. I went to the cellphone store and they kept showing me these phones saying "look, this one you can text, call, search the internet and watch a movie all at the same time. You'll get instant updates on email, facebook and twitter!" Na, no thanks. I think I'll just take the most basic you have...
