I was catching good sized bluegills off the rocks along the shore at Rend Lake Saturday. Fishing dropped off a lot at sundown, but they were biting like crazy on meal worms fished about 14-16" deep about 4 - 5 feet from shore. Many were over 7" and a couple were over 8". Sorry, no pictures. The ones we kept are all cleaned and in the freezer for this winter when I start jonesing for some bludgills to eat.

Actually I did get one picture of the fish in the cooler. :D It's towards the end of this post. http://www.siloutdoors.com/showthread.php?t=16983

That's great. I thought the big ones were only caught during the spring spawn. Which is why I give up on them once spring is over. How late in the year do you fish for them?
Thanks

I don't stop till it's too cold to hold a wet line. I've had bluegills bite year round.

Are they still in the shallows or do they head for deeper waters?

When I went fishing last time I was fishing within a few feet of the rip rap near the boat docks. We didn't bring the boat with us that time and just fished off the docks. Nothing would take minnow, though a few fish did hit them but not enough to take the hook. They were biting well on meal worms though. Most were about 6" but a few were over 8".
