I like water! Have a canoe set up with a trolling motor for the strip mines and small water, but decided that I really "needed" to be able to extend my range a bit. Still, I wanted to stay small, light and maneuverable for the small water fishing that we have a lot of here in Southern Illinois.
Enter my new acquisition. My buddy has two boats. One is a 16 foot behemoth of a jon boat nicely set up for our 10 horse max lakes we fish around here. The other is his little 12 foot jon boat with 5hp Johnson. The boat and motor are 10 years old, but probably have less than 20 hours on the water. The trailer is a Lowe expandable so I can upgrade to a 14 foot jon later if I want to. The trailer is 2 years old and set up with all the bells and whistles.
Took it out last night and frankly, it scared me a little to be in a "canoe" sized jon boat pushed across the water at top speed, even with a 5hp motor!!!
The deal was simply too good to pass up.
No, I don't have a live well, but I have a floating fish basket and a whole lake within a foot of my seat, so that's a pretty good live well.
It's my first boat.
Now, if I can just remember to set the switch from remote tank to internal tank, I won't have to spend a half hour pulling that darn rope until my finders bleed!!!
