Had a few hours to kill this morning and didn't want to load up the canoe and wrestle it around in the heat, so I drove to Peabody Wildlife Management Area in New Athens to do some bank fishing. My favorite pit is situated all wrong for morning bank fishing. Everyone knows that bass are hard to catch in crystal clear water and the eastern bank (the only one available) is in full sunshine all day long. Well this morning, I walked to a nice little point with a couple of small inlets on each side and in two consecutive casts with a curly tail blue worm, I nailed two 14" plus bass. One actually would have been 15 inches if I'd have been able to wish another 1/8th of an inch to the tail!
There were a couple of smaller ones thrown in for good measure. What kept me fishing til about noon was the sight of a monster bass cruising at about 5 feet of depth just off the point and ignoring everything I threw into the water. Thank God I didn't have dynamite!!!!
All in all, it was a couple of fun hours. I have all summer to explore these areas with the daughter and the canoe.
