Hey ya'll im new to this Site so I was wondering if anybody would be willing to tell me exactly what i have to do to go hunting in Illinois..I mean the tags and draws and all that stuff is just confusing to me...Also i someone could point me in the right direction for some public land or something maybe in the Southern part of the state...Another dumb question..Is it too late to get a fire arms tag?

Welcome aboard Bama from Georgia??? LOL

Non-res archery tags are gone.
You can go HERE (https://www1.wildlifelicense.com/il/start.php) to see about non-res gun permits. They are selling fast, and many counties are sold out of buck tags. There may be a chance at a buck muzzleloader tag though.

If you want to hunt public land you will find plenty of public land in SIL compared w/ the rest of the state. It may be worth while to come up and get a doe tag or 2, (CHEAP) hunt and learn some ground. Then plan to return the following year prepared for bucks (Not cheap)

Shawnee National Forest is the biggest public area in southern IL at 265,000 acres. Lots of land, lots of deer, a few good bucks to boot...beautiful country. I'd recommend ordering some 1:24,000 USGS maps of the area you plan on hunitng. See the link above where you can look at the maps of the area and order them with the "order form". I have only hunted the Shawnee ground in Pope county myself, however, there is plenty of Shawnee ground in Jackson, Union, Alexander, Johnson, Saline, Gallatin, and Hardin counties as well. You should still be able to get a gun tag for this season. I know there are always extra tags for Pope county available until the final drawing...remember, all od IL is shotgun or muzzleloader hunting.

Uh, no deer here. I think that all the big ones are in Ga. Why else would Bill Jordan live there. Hey, do you know Bill?
