Carlyle has been a blast to fish.

Today's adventure was to try to catch Sauger after a week of crappie and white bass. On Wednesday I was near the suspension bridge and the sauger I was catching did not have any size to them. Brought in small 8-10 inch young sauger but with a length limit of 14 inches this doesn't fill any baskets.

So I got to the suspension bridge today in the morning, it was a bit overcast so the thought was the fishing would be better. I have retrieve a pair of lost lures from the river bottom wednesday which were a bit heavier and were bright in color. I thought today would be a good time to try these freebie lures out.... bouncing off of the bottom. Hey, thats were I found them so I thought if I lost them they would be right back were I found them.

Met some nice folk fishing for Sauger also. Everyonce and a while a carp would be hooked and brought to shore.

Didn't take long to get into some nice Sauger. 14 inch plus fish.

They could take skin off a finger real easily.

The day was eventful since a spoonbill was caught right next to me so I had to get a photo of it for this post.

Later went to the dam to try the days luck.

Was catching a lot of drum.

I think I am going to try to make it over there on Saturday. I have never fished on that side of the river down by the swinging bridge. Do you have to walk across the bridge to get there or can you park on that side? I always fish on the west side down there and on the east side up at the dam. Are the carp still as bad as in the past few years?

One of the hardest fighting fish I ever caught was a Drum. I weighed it and it came in at just over 4lbs. I couldn't believe the power and stamina of that fish! This was up on the lake side.
Looked like a good time Debunk. I run around there quite a bit so I may catch you there one day.

You can park on the west side.

With curly tail grub with a weighted jig head it is actually more difficult than one thinks to hook a carp. Most fish have to bite the hook to actually get hooked.

Now a rooster tail ( trailing treble hook) is going to hook everything in its path.

Nice shots Debunk. The Sauger are pretty fish and I like seeing the spoonbill, I have never caught one of those but seen some big ones.

Very cool! I used to get up there 2 or 3 times a year to fish. Stay at the campground and make a weekend of it. Are they catching any Flathead catfish up there yet? I was thinking of coming up there two or three weeks and going after some flatheads when they start spawning. By the way, great pictures. Made me want to drop everything and go up there to fish! :)

Didn't look down but from the bottom it is obvious the fish density it greater than the water density.
