Everyone, it's that time again. I'm shifting sites around and moving some databases to their own server to keep things running as efficiently as possible.

To that end the SILO site will be temporarily turned off at around 7PM tonight so that I can pull a site and database backup. It will be just like last time when I moved server IPs around. The site will give an error saying it's closed and it will stay that way until your browser picks up on the change and starts pointing at the new IP address.

In my experience these changes take a few hours to catch on. That plus the fact that the SILO database and images storage is HUGE means the change could take a while. So don't waste your time refreshing the site every 10 minutes because that will just keep reloading the old site and storing it in your cache, potentially making your wait longer.

Since this is tax day, if you haven't done them I guess this is a good excuse to go and take care of that. I promise you won't miss anything except for an error message :D

Wow, one of these days I will get this right and the change will only take an hour or 2 like I planned :D

Sorry for the delay folks. It basically went down like this.


Closing and backing up the site took 1 1/2 hours (I planned for 30 minutes)
Moving the backup took 1 hour (I planned about an hour)
Restoring the backup took 1 hour (again planned 30 minutes)


But the BIG problem was that the host gave me the wrong IP addresses last night. I just figured that out this morning so it took a bit to redo some things and wait for the changes to catch on.

Please let me know in this thread if anything isn't working properly. I'll be here most of the day monitoring.

I have been seeing adds all along don't know if anyone else with over 500 post's is also seeing them or if it's just me.

That message pertains to those ads in the forum listing and a think a few other sections.

But you will still see "some" ads.

Now, if you are still seeing the "You won't see these ads after 500 posts" message with ads beside it then something's wrong and we need to fix that.

I'm seeing "You won't see these ads after 500 posts" with a add under it have been forever, don't know if I'm the only one or not.
Seeing it on this page now to the right of the screen & also on the home page when I'm on it.

I think it is because you are only in about 15 user groups... if I take you off one it screws up something else.
