View Full Version : I guess no one goes to B&B's???
I've only ever been to one. The Green Tree Inn in Elsah, IL; twice. They are really nice folks up there, and cook up a mean breakfast. DELICIOUS! All fancy and stuff. There is a nice deer mount in the breakfast room. The rooms are very nice. Lots of cool stuff to do around there as well. Grafton, Hiking, Biking, Bird watching, Pere Marquette, winery. Here's the secret, take the wife/GF there (or to any B&B) in the off season, and it locks you down for a hunting or fishing trip later. :p
flatlander 12-13-2006, 17:20 This isn't a B&B but wouldn't mind spending the weekend their for a close/nice little get away, just down the road.
If your not from this area it looks like it would be a nice little place to stay while you see the sites, fish or hunt.
Never been there myself.

Always wit han alterior motive in mind.....you should be ashamed of yourself.
BTW...I have never stayed at a B&B in SIL but jI have stayed at a few. I went to one in MO that had the best biscuts and gravy ever!!! To this day I have not found better tasting.....
uncle matt 07-24-2007, 18:39 There's an article in The Southern Illinoisan about B&Bs
gretchensteele 07-24-2007, 19:15 not to mention, B and B's make for good "girls weekends" when the guys are off doing what ever...(although I'd usually rather be off doing whatever the fellas are doing...) LOL
DetectDave 07-24-2007, 19:58 I drove by that one in Elsah a few weeks go Bob and it did look like a nice place. Did you happen to drive through the principia College campus? It's locked down major tight and we couldn't get out of our cars. I guess they were afreais that my moderate alcohol use, foul language and the occassional Kool filter king might be a bad influence..:D Prett sharp looking place though for sure.

I always go around the college... My in-laws farm is not far from there right on the Piasa creek. I got me 100 acres of PRIME big buck land.:p
As for the Green Tree I highly recommend it for anyone wanting to spend a great weekend in the Grafton area.
Birdhunter1 07-24-2007, 21:57 There is a nice on west of Alto Pass towards the cross, t the peach Barn Cafe/Hedman's Orchard and Vineyard. Sweedish food to die for and nice little pond out front.
The only one I've ver been to was at Great Boars of Fire outside of Anna, we had our wedding reception there and stayed in their B&B that night.
jerrynuss 01-02-2008, 16:46 There is a great place to stay south of Herrin called Cold Creek Ranch.
jerrynuss 01-02-2008, 17:03 Here is the website for Cold Creek Ranch.
www.coldcreekranch.net It is a great location for being close to the hunting clubs and centrally located from marion and Carbondale. The place is very clean and the owner is a great guy.
gretchensteele 01-02-2008, 17:12 Jerry - Thanks for that link..I'm always on the look out for places to reccomend to out of town visiting photogs...I can't really put them up at my house..and I like to have someplace centrally located for them to stay..Thanks again for giving me another place to add to list!
Bob if your going to the Green Tree, drive up to Calhoun Co and cross the ferry then come back and eat lunch at the Finn Inn in Grafton. It is a great place to eat plus you can see live fish swimming in tanks right at your table. They have fish indigenous to the Mississippi River and giant snapping turtles, also the Bald Eagles should be on the river in large numbers very soon. Saw an eagle today while hunting....... that is about the only birds I saw...
gretchensteele 01-02-2008, 17:58 The Fin Inn will be a real treat for your boys...also across the road from the Fin Inn is the oh shoot..goose something..anyway..the gin mill across the road ..looks out over the river and has really good river fish to eat and the Eagle watching from their enclosed deck is really good...so cool to watch them feeding out of the river
(the buffalo sandwich is Delish and big enough to feed two easily..)
DetectDave 01-02-2008, 18:22 Ah...the Wild Goose. Good fish, chili & Turkey:)
I think the wife and I will have to check out that Finn Inn. In a week or two. By the way I found a link: http://www.fininn.com/
lifestudent55 01-02-2008, 23:52 My wife and I went to the Fin Inn a few years ago. We spent longer waiting to get in than we actually spent in the restaurant.
carpsniper 01-06-2008, 17:11 We were going to go to the Finn Inn when we were at the Family Fishing Fair. But just like Life said, the wait was unreal. That means it must be goooood. Or as DD says Deeeeeeelish! LOL
We ended up going Saturday. No wait. Although the service was a bit slow the food was great. Saw several other smaller places I think I will try later on.
codysisk13 03-28-2012, 20:42 Whats a bb? I have never heard of this before?
Brian B. 03-28-2012, 21:37 Whats a bb? I have never heard of this before?
Bed and Breakfast- (I guess).. I have never been to one.
lifestudent55 03-28-2012, 23:47 We've only stayed in B&Bs a couple times, and they're a lot cozier than most hotels. Both of the times we stayed in B&Bs were in southern Indiana.
If you ever go to eminence this is a nice b&b http://hawkinshousebb.com/rooms.html
If you go to the trail ride it's a great place to stay for a night to get out of the campground.
I second the Peach tree. I like to take my wife and another couple to a B&B prior to duck season - works for a short time thwen they want more!
The fin Inn is a nice place to eat but you can geyt much better fish in Grafton! Just not many places with cool fish tanks
