I had a free aust sheppard/coon mix. He was the best dog I ever had.
Died in 06 at 12 years old.

I still catch myself wanting to cry cause I miss the darn inbred mutt.....

both of mine are mixes..and were rescue dogs..haven't turned out to be expensive.. and I wouldn't trade them for love or money - but there was that great period of getting Buddy over some really strange behaviours that he came with - he was about 9 mos when we got him and boy was he a psycho mess when he first arrived.. Luckily Dolly was young and the shelter she came from had already done basic obedience etc with her.. not that she ever remembers her lessons anymore LOL

I hope at the very minimum some fine folks here will take the dogs and give them a good home.

If it wasn't such a long drive down there, but then I'd also have my commander to answer too. Fortunately she loves dogs too. We've got a couple Brittany mixed dogs that, other than incessant barking, are great dogs.

I hear you on it being hard losing a dog. We had one die in '05 that was a rescue dog. If we didn't take her, she was on her way to the pound, and she was the best behaved (and previously trained) dog I've ever known.

The dog I got they bobed there tails, then said if no one wanted them they were gona dig a hole and put them in. I told my mom about it and she said oh no there not and told me to get one. I got two, one for me and one for a guy i worked with. They ended up dumping the one i got them..i was so pissed about that.

As soon as my mom saw the one i got she hugged it and started crying. If my mom was around you could not get around her.

Quick funny story about my dog.

The night my wife and I had our bachlor/bachlorett party, someone pranked knocked on my door while my step-daug was home alone. Being scared, she called 911...

Then called us. My wife got there before I did, then the cops showed up. While the cop was talking to the wife, (mind you she had the screen door cracked, the cop got to close to her. My dog bolted out of the door, and latched onto the cop, first at his ankle then his kneecap. (Lucky he didn't get shot.)

Needless to say, he had not had his shots that year, which prompted the animal control dude to ask if I wanted him put down. I told him hell no, which put me in the situation of keeping him quart for 1 week.

Now..here is the funny part. This same cop was doing a talk at Herrin HS when he began to tell a story about a dog that was running loose that bit him....amazingly enough it was on the street that I lived on.

My step-daug immediatly spoke up and asked if it was at xxx house on xxx street and he said yes it was.

She immedatly said, you are a liar. That was my stepdads dog, it was in the house and you moved while talking to my mom, and the dog thought you was going to hurt her.

The cop immediatly said, well that is enough for today.......

:) In hind sight....that was funny as heck!!!!!! :)

I love a good story like that. A lot of people don't realize what good judges of character dogs are.
