Hey got this email alert, sounds cool. I would doubt that Mars will be as big as the full moon, but even if its the size of a dime, it will be fun to look at! I will be there in Carbondale on the 27th, and will have my big telescope out, if anyone wants to come over for a look!

Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August.

It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye.
This will culminate on Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65M miles of
earth.
Be sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30 am.
It will look like the earth has 2 moons.
The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.

I'm going to try my hand at photographing this...I've done "fair" with trying to photograph the moon..we'll see how this works out...meteor showers are at their peak tonight and tomorrow night....

Sorry, Apparently I have fallen for an email hoax.........Mars thing.... not going to happen! Nice meteor shower though the last couple nights!

it happens........ It sounded to good to be true.. I just hope they are right about the predicted peak of 100 metors pre hour.......

It will be closer and large and more "viewable" just not the size of the moon!

:) Cool, then I'm still on for the telescope in the yard! I'll bet I'll even start the BBQ and ice down a few beers!

I cant remember, I will have to get out my telescope once I get there ( on the 23rd) but I believe I have an adaptor to fit a 35mm camera body on to the telescope :confused: I know I did at one time but dont remember seeing it the last time I had it out.
