I thought this was a pretty neat article... I know a lot of cities welcome these birds to help keep down the pigeon populations...

View Full Version : Birds of Prey In STL City Bob 08-06-2007, 13:42 I thought this was a pretty neat article... I know a lot of cities welcome these birds to help keep down the pigeon populations... http://www.bnd.com/news/local/story/98052.html carpsniper 08-06-2007, 13:51 That is a good article. I especially liked the quotes from Mr. Crawford. "Crawford said the string of avian injuries might reflect an influx of birds from rural areas, where humans continue to infringe on their natural habitat. Or it could have to do with increased human activity downtown" Let's see if you read this the same as me, There are more people in rural areas, ...so to get away from people, the raptors are moving to the cities. Could it be something as simple as Bob said? There is food that is plentiful and easily caught, ie: pigeons, rats, feral cats, etc. mdoc 08-06-2007, 14:04 I used to work for the Hilton in Springfield. We had peregrine falcons that had nested on the 30th floor. During the day you could see them floating on thermals just feet from the window,(before I was interested in photography). They would be there one second the gone the next it was the neatest thing to see. Used to see quite a few hawks and even owls at night. |
