Had a new and not so good experience with Buddy yesterday -
I'm getting home care again for a few days, and Buddy has NEVER had an issue with home care staff previously. He doesn't get terribly far from me, sort sits back quietly and watches and I guess you could say makes sure everything is going to be okay.
Yesterday he was horrible. He literally parked his moose butt right on my feet and would not budge, would not let nurse touch me. When she'd lean towards me he'd just stuff that cow head of his in her face and really softly woof/blow at her.
He wasn't snarly or agressive - he's just big enough that he body blocked her, and I think she was maybe scared of him.
Had to ultimately call Critter to come home and take him outside - and that was a battle of the wills..
So today he is going out before she comes.
Anyhow, I'm wondering if he sensed that there were going to be some issues with that nurse ( sadly there were ) and he's maybe smarter than I give him credit for? Or maybe because she has Great Pyranees he smelled the other dogs on her?
I was just floored.. he's always before been great with the home health people:confused: He greets them nicely then parks himself over in the corner..
darn lummox has me baffled...

You may be right about him knowing it was not going to go well. Hope today is better.

Did she spend any time with Buddy before she started taking care of you? Then again, you could be right about Buddy's senses. We all know dogs can sense things that we can't.

No, she just was kind of in shock when the cow met her at the door LOL umm he can be a little imposing looking to strangers..
so maybe that was apiece of it.. he spooked her, and then he picked up on her uneasiness? She just kept saying that she was afraid he was going to knock her down and she didn't want to fall...and I understand that.
Hee hee when I was still a home care nurse I carried milk bones in my bag ROFL

Dog's have a good sense of character and they also can sense when something isn't right and can also sense when thing's aren't going the right way.Especially a dog that is with you and knows you well.

Gosh I just have to tell this story....
I had a very tiny frail elderly lady as long time patient who had a big bruiser retired K9 shepard for her companion dog...very imposing..but he liked me..the biggest problem I had with him was he would sit right behind me when I drew her blood and very gently lick the back of my neck the whole time I was doing it LOL Guess that was his way of keeping me focused on the task at hand ROFL

Maybe he was trying to tell/show you to be gentle.

Animals do pick up on a person who is "tepid". You show fear and they will take advantage.
A friend of mine boarded race horses and I would help him frequently and the first thing he told me when going in the stall to clean it out is don't show any fear or they will take advantage of it. Man was he right. After that first time I would rare my fist back and the horse would go to the opposite corner. He said they wouldn't hesitate to bite, kick or pin you up against the stall.
Raising his fist was how he dealt with them so they was familiar with getting one across the snot if needed.

Things went better today. Buddy sat outside at the patio door..so he could watch..and that seemed to satisfy him. The nurse was much calmer and things went swimmingly.
Guess he's just a little protective of me...
