With the opening of squirrel season, I was wondering if their were any squirrel dog hunters here! I love hunting with my feist and takin em with a longbow. Here is the Gooch on tree......[a little blurry.....feists dont stand still very much!]

1. Gooch is a great dog name

no, but they have a good "coon-n- cur" up at the sportmans club at Fillmore pond, some type of trade days and get together once a month, we go out just to watch and look around they set up a time course and run the dogs, folks from all over I guess see liscens plates from Michigan to Kentucky and all bordering states at it.

Yea....make my own. They are alot cheaper that way....and thats good when you loose a dozen each time out. I use a bright blue fletching. Its the only color that is unnatural [except for some flowers and birds] in the woods. Really stands out when your looking for them.

Im actually looking for a new cur dog. My coon hound is 10 now and needs a shot of insulin everyday....so he is not going to hunt alot anymore. There is a guy in Elizibeth Ill who has a good line of Mountain Cur dogs. Good for hogs too. Thats a great lookin Lab! Ive got a 3 yr old Lab who is really hunting well.

What is the best way to clean squirrels? I used to go with a buddy of mine that liked to squirrel hunt, but they were always a pain to clean especially the reds. My oldest son just turned 11 so I am going to take him out on his first squirrel hunt this year.

Love eatin' the young grays, but I hate cleaning squirrels. the method I use is,; make a cut across their back then pull in opposite directions, get hair all over, squish the guts into your face, and rip the squirrel in half! anyone have a better way? I usually only go once a year, but do enjoy it, especially the spider webs in the face, I usually end up scouting more for deer than squirrels. I have a busy weekend but may try to go Sunday morning. I'll be out there anyway to check a cam.

huntrz method..well it seems pretty standard...actually I always put them on their backs, and did it sort of like an autopsy cut.....actually got me brownie points in college...in an anotomy class we had to skin and dissect cats...I was the first one done and the instructor asked how I had managed so well...when I answered that it was "just like cleanin a squirrel"...he backed up and pretty much left me be the rest of the quarter...and I got an A LOL

I use the same across the back cut but I soak them in water for a minute. Seems like the fur doesn't come off as easy when you're skinning. Mmmmmm.... tasty little tree rats. You guys got me hankering for some fresh reds. I'm headed for WI right now to try and pick up some walleye but I'm wishing I brought the rifle now. Supposed to be 93 up there..doesn't seem right for WI.
