I'm from Central IL and we do not have the lakes you guys in the South have :( I've always wanted to come down there and fish some of the lakes; what would be some of your suggestions for not only good fish but decent to good numbers as well?

Lake of Egypt and Crab can both be real good at the right time.

I wanted somebody else to say it first but Lake of Egypt was the first place that came to mind for me. Just watch out for big tournament weekends, but that's the case on most lakes now.
P.S. Not knocking tourn fishers (I fish a couple every year), it just gets a lil crowded sometimes.

This time of year coffeen can offer a great bite. Baldwin lake is another power plant lake.

Sangchris is a power plant lake isn't it? Great crappie fishing so the bass fishing should be good, they usually co-inside. Right in your back yard.

Egypt is good. Caught 3 nice bass last monday there even though they are not pulling water and it was 45 degrees. They are still hitin rattle trap. My favorite SIL lake is Kincaid lake. The best topwater action ever!!!

I would have to recommend Newton Lake.

Here is a list of some lakes.

Im with debunk and L.Newton. Some monsters in there. 18" to even be a keeper. Some big ol stringers always brought to the scales on the frequent tournaments.
