gretchensteele 07-30-2007, 08:46 it is a great day and lots of good music...I've shot it for several years....and my shots were used for some of the special inserts in the papers...take plenty to drink, it's always hot and humid!!!
I'll be there. I've been about 3 times, always a good time! check out the $10.00 per cooler charge, I didn't know about last year, no one told me about it when I paid at the gate, later some cops were going around checking to see if you paid, of course I hadn't, cause I didn't know, the guy next to me got irrate and stormed out! I QUIETLY PAID MY $10.00, (still better than paying the high prices for their beer, and besides they didnt sell any Keystone light), but felt like I was gettin' the shaft, my advice get together with some friends, get the biggest frickin cooler you can find and just split the cost, I'm taking in a beer trailer!
this year the event is dedicated to Jim Beattie, I had the pleasure of seeing him play back in the mid 70's with a band called Footloose, they did some great classic country-rock, harmonica, lap guitar, great vocals, they did covers of groups like Grateful Dead, Poco, Pure Priarie League, Little Feet, etc. His brother Tim Beattie is playing, hopefully they will do some of that old stuff. see ya there!
It said no coolers though on the post....is that at he same thing or not?
no coolers on friday night, coolers are ok on Saturday, but you have to pay $10.00 per cooler, which is ok if you know it going in, like I said, I didn't know last year, makes you feel like you're gettin' gouged! but it really is worth it, wife and I like most blues music so we have a good time.

You listen to 88.1 between 4-6 ever?
The cooler deal was new last year... used to be free, and pay to park....
I have but forget abut it most of the time, my main radio listening is 8 to noon on Sunday mornings, KSHE Classics, to me thats what Sundays are for, (when it's not deer season) sleepin in, hangin around the house and listening to some classics from the 70's, KSHE style.
Last concert5 I went to was Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Legends of the Blues Tour at the Pagent, was awesome, he had some old time blues guys there, was all good except getting our side window in suv broke out by some kids throwing bricks off the overpass near Forest Park.
gretchensteele 07-31-2007, 10:37 I'm not sure exactly how I'm going to get it pulled off...I have to shoot a class reunion at 7:30.....I really want to shoot Tim's bunch....we had the pleasure of being friends with most of the Footloose guys, and spent a large amount of time with the drummer Mike.....
is anybody else going? besides Fungus and myself? Gretch? Bob?
It's 10pm, and I just got back from an outdoor expo in Memphis with Scott H.
I bet they are rockin there RIGHT NOW>...

gretchensteele 08-11-2007, 22:23 sooo sad I missed this..but I had the pleasure of shooting the class reunion for classes 57 - 62...the individual class group shots were a piece of cake. The ones of all six classes together ...a little like trying to nail jello to a tree...and even down to 18mm was barely wide enough..those will require a little work...looks like all at the Blues Fest had a lovely time!!!

gretchensteele 08-11-2007, 22:26 OH my...yep I am sad...I loved shooting the crowd..it was always so umm....interesting.
I'll dig out my film shots and scan them...have some wonderful closeups of Delbert Mclinton from year he was there...
as usual, the Sparta Blues Fest - ROCKED!
Tim Beatty and his band did a great job with their country-rock blues fusion, we were a little disappointed not to see some sort of a quick reunion song from Footloose members, but, still awesome night. the highlight of the night, in my opinion, was when Tim came up on stage and played his harp with Michael Burke! Michael Burke is one hell of a guitar player! we rode it out til midnight! this was one of the lightest crowds I've ever seen there, guess the heat was too much for most, but really wasn't that bad.
here's a few pics and short vids...
