Harry - Bless your heart - you always say just the right thing :) It didn't help that there were two guys shooting just down from me with 800 L's if there'd only been one of them I would have been tempted to push him in the river grab the lens and run!!! LOL

You should have at least told them you were thinking about buying one and ask if you take a few shots and see what you thought :D :D :D

Two of them???!!! Yikes! At nearly $11,000 for one of those, you don't see many floating around! It's just so expensive once you get above 300mm, and unless you're spending serious cash, even getting to 300mm or 400mm, the lenses seem mediocre at those focal lengths. Wildlife photography just isn't a game I'm prepared for at this point.

Gretchen,
I am willing to let you borrow my FujiFilm 6.0 megapixel with 130mm fixed lens.

Its state of the art 2004 technology.... like technology changes!

Debunk - if the hubble doesn't arrive here Tuesday as promised ( after a lengthy hissy fit with everybody from the service tech to the general manger LOL) I just may take you up on that!

I was quite shameless with them - I've never had a problem with Sigma - ever - their warranty repairs have always been super fast and they've always been easy to work with - this go around has been like a freaking curse - finally the GM got to the bottom of things and even promised me if I wasn't happy with the performance when it arrived home to let them know they'd upgrade me to a new lens. When I explained to the GM that I had always sung the praises of Sigma lenes yada yada and I could just as easily tell the world vis the blogs forums etc what a mess has been and how they took so darned long and I was screwed on an important assignment....well let's just say everyone got very cooperative all at one!
The problem seemed to be obtaining some obscure part.. what? an eagle had to fly it from from a mountain top in Japan?
