These are too old to eat...once they get to this stage, the spores are actually dangerous and can cause an ergotism type reaction, but when the "tumors" are young and very fresh the pulp is sugary and kind of aromatic and edible...they are actually canned and sold commerically in latin america!

Was that on Anthony Bourdain's show No Reservations or Anthony Zimmern's show Bizarre Foods? I can't remember which one I saw that on. No thanks, I think I'll pass on that one. I rather have some good morels.

I would guess it probably was...although I didn't see it....I can't vouch for it's edibility personally...it just wasn't something I have ever thought I wanted to try...I think it was you that said...just cause you can eat it doesn't mean you should!...LOL
