Deb from BrownWaterDogs, posted this on the calendar...

Retrievers Unlimited Hunting Retriever Club training day will be July 29th at New Athens, River King Mine. Starts at 7 am. New folks welcome anytime. Bring your retriever and check us out.

I would SERIOUSLY recommend going to one of these to check out how to work your dog. There are people there to help you with every dog problem you can imagine. Even if you don't want to get into the competition aspect, the exercises YOU do with YOUR dog go a LONG way in the field or blind.

Can I go without my overly enthusiastic mutt?

YES you can.... These folks don't care the breed as long as you wanna teach it to retrieve... It'll be mostly labs and goldens though...

A dog is a dog, they are all the same, learn the same, do the same stuff............................................. ..............................................
.................................................. ...............................................
And then there are labs...:p

Well, I think Buddy has some lab in him....but he's just still too enthusiastic in public...we're working on it...but I wonder if his months as a stray have wrecked him....

Thanx Bob for the intro. Appreciate the site...it looks great... ya know though, my suggestion would be: in order to round out your picture at the top of the pages would be to have a (brown) dog up there with a duck in its mouth :). You know me, gotta plug 'em every chance.

But on the dog training note....gretchensteele... if he is enthusiastic as you say that is a good reason to bring him to a training day and just let him watch the other dogs if nothing else. Sounds like he needs more exposure to
being in the "public" and these training days are excellent just for that.
Everyone is welcome to come and meet us. Yes, there are labs, goldens, spaniels, boykins, we even have folks with bird dogs (pointers)jumping over to training for retrieving and doing really well at it. One fellow has UKC titles on his dogs. It's something to see a liver and white out there showing up the labs!
Anyway, come see us, bring your dogs, see what it is all about. Any duck/goose hunters that want a tune-up on their dogs before hunting season
this is where to go.

Yes, we use poppers on training days. Relistic sound but no shot in them.
You can start out away from the sound and graduate him in close to see his reaction.

Anyone can come watch and mingle. You do not need a pass. The Retriever Club members have "training" access. If you are spectators your're OK.

Ya know Smokey, I like this avatar better than the other one. And sometimes you just don't have to have an "excuse." Excuses are for people who usually have a guilty conscious. Sometimes you don't need one ya know.
Come visit the training day Sunday...I would like to meet you and your midget:)
