I have two old trail cams with film type cams in them. Is it possible to change them over to digital? They were still working fine a couple years ago but I haven't used them since. I have a digital Kodak Easy Share CD40. Would that work? Can it be changed over or do you have to start from scratch??
Thanks in advance.

That question has been asked several times on the homebrew trail cam sites I go to and the answer has always been no the control boards that are used for the 35mm cams wont/cant operate the digital camera's.

A few things that are taken into consideration before using a digital camera for a trail cam.

How fast does the camera shutter a picture, from off to shutter?
How good is the flash ?
Battery life ?
Is the camera hackable, able to be modified.
Are the ground, power and shutter contacts capable of being used/ soldered to (inside the camera).

these are just a few off the top of my head I am by no means a electronic expert so I dont experiment on my own with new or different digital camera's.
I use what has worked by the electronic guru's.
He are a few that have been used, I'm sure there are some I have missed.

This is just my opinion but a few of the mass produced trail cam's are catching up to or even caught the picture quality, speed and price of home brew trail camera's.

Flatlander, with your reputation for homebrews, I bet it really pained you to write that too. :D It's about time the trailcam manufacturers started taking the quality of their products as seriously as homebrew manufacturers like you have.

They will never match the warranty the home brew has though. :D
