View Full Version : Looking for Some Devils Kitchen, LOE, amd Grassy reports DetectDave 07-21-2007, 21:37 My 89 year old Gramp is headed down to the Kitchen for a week of tent camping and fishing. Anybody have any recent fishing reports? Thnx. Red 07-21-2007, 21:56 I have a few guides on LOE I will check with them and get back to you, when is he goin? BAM 07-21-2007, 22:02 Hey Dave, my hub goes just about everyday........Ill ask him and pm ya.....Did you see the pics from the other day??? DetectDave 07-21-2007, 22:08 Ya, they looked might nice! BAM 07-21-2007, 22:13 Thanks, Im gonna put some shots togather and post em in a min....... huntrz 07-22-2007, 09:31 dave, I haven't fished the kitchen in about 12 years but when i did, one method we used was to take a whole nightcrawler on a hook small enough to catch some of those big redears and gills, and a small splitshot, cast towards the bank and let it sink slowly, caught alot of big gills that way and some nice bass, Bowtechman 07-22-2007, 09:36 i dont know where he is planing on camping on the Kitchen but the camp ground is closed! the great state here shut her down. they have been catching some nice gills and you can always catch the little bass there. BAM 07-22-2007, 09:59 oh crap, I forgot about that....There is still Giant City campground right down the road as well as Ferne Clyffe.....either would be fine.....and both have a lake ....... DetectDave 07-22-2007, 10:03 Thanks Huntrz for the tips and Bamarama & BTMan for the fact that the campground is closed. I didn't know that. I guess GC would be a good bet and they can have a little yardbird some nite if they want at the lodge. How is the campground on the north side of LOE. Any tents sites close to water where they could do some titelinin'? BAM 07-22-2007, 11:54 Thanks Huntrz for the tips and Bamarama & BTMan for the fact that the campground is closed. I didn't know that. I guess GC would be a good bet and they can have a little yardbird some nite if they want at the lodge. How is the campground on the north side of LOE. Any tents sites close to water where they could do some titelinin'? Bamarama? lol.......anyway....check out the giant city state park campground....actually you can on line on alot of them. If you gramps liked the other campground, he would prolly like giant city. We didn't personally because we like to see the water. LOE> if all about the money now ...I don't even think they let tents in here anymore but I could be wrong. He has the campers in there all year now and then on south marina they turned it into a restort...... Ferne Clyffe is nice and you can walk all around the pond. there....we tent camp there. On top has electric and at the bottom on the hill is non electric tent only. we camped both before..... We like Rend personally the best...seems to keep the kids entertained the best.....you should take gramps with you!!! lol anyway... either campground is nice and has electric , toliets and such both are Class A..... When is he going? Soon? Here are some pics from Ferne... http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o122/bambam203/scenic/330ferneclyffestateparksign.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o122/bambam203/scenic/reflections.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o122/bambam203/scenic/330gooseupclose.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o122/bambam203/scenic/GOOSEONWATER330.jpg http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o122/bambam203/scenic/330fisherman.jpg I think that fisherman in the last photo was about as old as your gramps...lol... Im gonna pm ya again too.... DetectDave 07-22-2007, 13:09 He's going tomorrow. I talked w/ the campground guy at Little Grassy and he said Gramp could tent camp waterside and pull up his boat there as well. That may be the best bet. He is going to Rend w/ us as well. He has to drive his buddy home to Altamont as he had a few drivers licenses issues post a little cocktail incident if ya know what I mean. BAM 07-22-2007, 13:29 OH that's kewl.... good......glad that worked out.....hope gramps camps it out! lol..But be careful in the heat! Do you plan on fishing up at Rend? lifestudent55 07-22-2007, 15:53 One thing I like about Rend is being able to tie the boat up next to the primative camping area. DetectDave 07-22-2007, 16:33 We will be out fishing Fri nite thru Sun AM on Rend. Some tubing for the kids. we're staying at S. Sandusky..Site 159, 161, and 162 if memory serves me right. Ford dually w/ a Lowe Blue/white deck boat set up for fishing. gretchensteele 07-22-2007, 21:18 The Ferne Clyffe tent sites are super...They are really private..you don't even realize there are others camping around you...We love it at Ferne Clyffe..even spent our honeymoon there! It's a quick trip from there to little grassy, devils kitchen..LOE..any number of good spots. The lake there is nice and has good bank fishing....there's also trout in Frene Clyfee lake, although I've never been able to catch one...I vote Ferne Clyffe! Oh and there are several nice, not to strenous hiking trails that your gramps might enjoy at Ferne Clyffe...it's really I think my favorite of all the places in SoIL to Camp, with Johnson Creek coming in second... I hate camp sites that are right next to somebody else..with not even a shrub between you...I want to feel like I am indeed in the forest! LOL gretchensteele 07-22-2007, 21:23 Duh...guess I should have read the second page...LOL Pea Brained old woman that I am! BAM 07-22-2007, 21:25 Ferne Clyffe is only 10 mins away from me....haha! lol.Hub and I started out tent camping down there.....We also was enaged there....up on the bluff, over the lake..... they have that trail around the lake.....alot of older men go down there.....we caught a trout one night but wasn't trying. We didn't even have a trout stamp!!! I can almost bet Ill see a fox and turkeys there everytime I go and by the way fl trail cams are looking maybe a bobcat! lol..... The coyote are really yelpin tonight here....... gretchensteele 07-22-2007, 21:45 We were just there Friday....went to Cache River and the wetland center..Critter had to go measure augers at a customer's in Dongola when we got done with doc, so we decided to just bum around the rest of the afternoon, and we always try to make a couple of short hikes at Ferne Clyffe when we are even halfway close. I love that trail that goes around the bluff..especially the part that has all lizards and prickly pears...and you are right, we alays see lots of wildlife there...Friday it was deer and turkeys...I was hoping to shoot the waterfall but it was bone dry and very very little water in the pool... BAM 07-22-2007, 21:54 Yea, lol.......the waterfall been dry for a while! lol... Did you get any pics from the Cache River? Those big cypress treez! The turkeys are all over down there every time we go...... gretchensteele 07-22-2007, 21:57 I'm still futzing around with those shots...the lighting was really tough in amongst the cypress trees...I think Critters shots were better, but they are on his computer...I'll have to go copy them... BAM 07-23-2007, 00:39 I knew you wouldn't be able to go without getting some pics.......I didn't know Critter took pics too.......that's kewl.... BAM 10-01-2007, 12:10 Dave did gramps ever make it down? DetectDave 10-01-2007, 12:18 No he didn't. His buddy bagged him on that trip. I ended up going up there and spent most of a week w/ him. We did some good fishing and some hunting as well. |
