Theres a huge over the road truck shop about two miles from here right at the edge of the park in the old strip mine shop. Someone must have stole a tractor from there and was cutting cookies in the parking lot at Super lake and end up ramming the bathroom!

Is there a lot of big industry or a warehouse near the truck stop? The reason I ask, that truck must have been unhooked from the trailer already when it was stolen. A lot of places let you drop your trailer and contact you later when it's unloaded so the driver can eat and shower up in the mean time at the nearest truck stop if available.
I hope they catch the SOB!

And of course, if and when they do find the culprit(s), they won't have the money to undo the damage they did. At the same time, they need to be caught and an example made of them. I'd be willing to bet dollars to donuts that alcohol or some other intoxicant was involved.

Maybe we take it seriously because it's tax money that we earned that will go to rebuild that toilet and repair the rest of the damage that bastidge did. If someone took a piece of excavation equipment to the bathroom in your house, would you still be guffawing? I doubt it, especially if you were inside at the time. And no, I never destroyed anything deliberately, and especially nothing that expensive to repair. As a taxpayer (and you will be soon too my friend) in a state that is fighting insolvency, I find it appalling that anyone would do something like this.

Smoke sooner or later you'll realize that vandalism isn't all it's cracked up to be. Yeah I use to plow things over in my truck when I was younger, dumber and more immature (emphasis on the last two).... I even carried a can of spray paint to match my truck to cover up scratches before going home.

I'll just end that story there, the main thing is grow up and don't tear up stuff!

If we were figuring the closet space by surface area, mines would be better to do in acres or quarter sections than square feet.

Smokey, not all of us tore stuff up, and I can bet very few did anything like this. A bit of advice from a codger who's seen a hell of a lot more of this world than you have Smokey, don't ever destroy anything that you can't afford to replace. This was not just someone cutting donuts in a parking lot or in the grass.
This was not just a prank or a harmless joy ride !

It was someone stealing a big, expensive & dangerous piece of equipment, that can do major damage in the wrong hands !!!!!!
It was someone destroying tens of thousands of dollars of public property, on PURPOSE. Plain & simple.
Another thing no one has brought up, what if someone would have been in that public bathroom at the time they brought that building down ??????
They would have probably been dead.

ANYONE, who thinks that kind of stuff looks fun, or finds humor in this or thinks that would be a blast, need to have their head examined !

No - it happened AGAIN ( different lake) - on the 12th - this time the truck was one of SIMX 's and after they smashed the bathroom, they sunk the truck in the edge of the strip pit...

First incident was on the 22nd of August I think..

http://www.duquoin.com/news/x1073706373/Tamaroa-Pinckneyville-Men-Arrested-for-Park-Vandalism

On Tuesday September 22, 2009 Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) and Perry County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) made two arrests reference the criminal damage at Pyramid State Park.

IDNR, Perry County Sheriff’s Office and DuQuoin Police Department investigators had recently been working tips concerning the criminal damage. Investigators from IDNR, PCSO and DQPD spent countless hours working the tips.

On Tuesday the following subjects were arrested:

Christopher Phillips (20) of Pinckneyville and Jerry Martin Patterson (18) of Tamaroa were arrested and charged with 2 counts each of Criminal Damage to State Supported Property over $10,000 but less than $100,000 and Possession of stolen vehicle.

Both subjects were incarcerated in the Perry County Jail after not posting bond. Bond set in the amount of $40,000 each.

Sheriff Kellerman and IDNR wish to thank all the people that phoned in information concerning this incident that lead to the arrest. Without the public’s assistance this case would have taken much longer to resolve.

Its kind of a Sad thing whats going to happen.

Here is how it will end.

2 young adults will be tried in court, found guilty, sentinced to prison for criminal damage to Federal Property along with Felony theft of a vehicle. Tax payers will get to pay wages, food and shelter to watch them for a couple years. Tax payers will pay for the damage to repair the State Park Property.
They will be released (they probably just got carried away with too much party'n) and will never be able to find a decent job the rest of their lives.

To bad they just can't make them rebuild the damage done to a new condition, repay all those who were burdened, give them some hours of community service to take care of some State Park items that need fixed, like filling in the pot holes on the park roads. This would save tax dollars, make sense and give them an outlook on life.

lifestudent55
09-22-2009, 21:01
That would be the smart way to handle it. Unfortunately that's now how our legal system is set up. A few judges are starting to look at cases from that viewpoint, but they are few and far between.

I am with you Debunk! Shame the system dose not work that way. I was impressed a few years ago when one of our local cops caught two teen aged youth busting pumpkins, they got to clean up the mess and replace the pumpkins carved and all to the 6 houses they took them from. They decided they would do that instead of facing the judge. I told the cop I like his style.

Yep. A few months ago a sheriff stopped at my folks in Indiana to tell dad his tiller had been stolen and that they'd caught the kid that did it. Dad didn't even know it was missing yet. It hadn't been working but the kid got it running and took the engine off for a go kart. the Sheriff made him put the tiller back together, so Dad now has a working tiller. Sometimes some good comes out of it.

We saw this early the following morning after it happened, I was mighty pissed, that was my favorite place to drop the ole' mornin' DEUCE!!! Then if memory serves they did the same to Golden Eye shortly after I believe.. Or it may have been the following season.. I was thinking the little Meth-Head that drove it on there was lucky the concrete did not give way and he get my DEUCE all over him(falling down into the tank), ohhh, that would have been a fitting punishment..
