Saw the first poached deer of the new year last nite coming home from froogin.Had seen the deer a few times nice buck not yet fully matured horns and there he lay head missing.:(

what really sucks is your tracking a buck sence it was pretty much born till its about 4 years old its got a huge non-typical rack. The year you decide to take it a 15 year old jumps your fence on your property shoots the deer and gets a state record out of the deal and the DNR wont charge the boy with tresspassing or poaching cause its a kid. Happened Back home in Iowa to me, and it really sucked. Nice to see a kid out hunting but he needed to know he broke the law, there were signs posted everywhere even where the boy jumped the fence but nothing was done.

Last week I found a dead doe that had obviously been shotgunned. What baffles me is that the throat was obviously deeply cut and all the feet were cut off, that was it.

What lead me to it was the stench (oh the stench!).

I called DNR and showed him where it was the next day. The missing feet baffled him too.

Somebody wanted to make a gun rack ??? :mad: :(

yeah they use the feet for hat/coat racks, among other things. amazing the reasons people poach deer and usually the meat is left behind.

Rest assured guys if I were to ever poach one the meat would be used.

For some reason people never believe me when I tell them that I have never shot a deer illegally.

With as many deer as there are in southern Illinois, there isn't any reason to kill them illegally (except stupidity).

What I really don't understand is if someone poaches a nice buck, what are they going to do with their rack? Can they really take it home, hang it on the wall, and be proud of it? That makes me sick.

It wouldn't bother me one bit if it was a family that REALLY needed food for the table. But sensless killing for a stupid gun rack or whatever they had in mind just ticks me off too.

They can't take it to a tax now to have it mounted can they? Don't they have to have a tag on it?
