DetectDave 07-15-2007, 09:05 I've been a member for about 2 months or so. It seems like the daily posts are very limited and I pretty much quit checking it. What was there seemed like some pretty good advice though and from that article it seems like there are more local members than I realized. May be I better check into it a bit more.
Whats the web site for it?

eatmordonuts 07-15-2007, 17:35 Thanks for the links Dave!! Look forward to checking those out, I kinda like that sort of thing! The article made it sound like it was a pretty big deal.
DetectDave 07-23-2007, 04:39 I finally figured out why all the BOC posts were old...they have a new site and here it is:
http://www.catfish1.com/
gretchensteele 07-23-2007, 07:58 I read about them in the Southern too...sounded like my kind of folks....hey Eatmore...I am a big catfishing fan...so you've got one pal here for helping you find the good catfishing spots when you get moved here!
eatmordonuts 07-23-2007, 16:06 Well, thats great gretchen! sounds like your into photography as well! I'm going to want to get out after them right away! Still up in the air on the exact pull out date for me here in Nebraska, but at the latest, I'll be there at mid september (after the Colorado ML deer season) should be plenty of good cat weather yet there, so we'll have to try and hook up!
DetectDave 07-23-2007, 18:44 The guys on this site are really touting the garlic shrimp as THE bait of chaoice. 1 bag raw shrimp covered w/ one small bottle garlic salt and left to marinate overnight or longer. Freeze unused portions. Bought all of the above tonite and will try it at Rend this weekend. I will report back.
gretchensteele 07-23-2007, 20:50 now that's a new one on me...guess I'll have to give it a whirl too!

And if you don't catch any cats, you can always throw in a few veggies and have some stir-fry.
eatmordonuts 07-23-2007, 21:54 Well I guess I'd better try it up here before I leave, I was planning on going out tomorrow night, will try to get some marinating in the morning, hopefully give it enough time.
eatmordonuts 07-24-2007, 18:58 ooooo boy! These things really smellllll good? hmmmmm stir fry might not be to bad! Nope, must focus, the cat poles are in the truck and I'm fixin' to give these garlic shrimp a try.
DetectDave 07-24-2007, 19:59 I just got done salting mine for the weekend. Might have to skewer them w/ some chorizo and say to hell w/ the kitties..LOL
Let us know how you'uns did... we need pics...
lifestudent55 07-24-2007, 21:17 I just got done salting mine for the weekend. Might have to skewer them w/ some chorizo and say to hell w/ the kitties..LOL
That does sound good.
I used to use live freshwater shrimp in Japan to fish for largemouths. Several soft lures are flavored with salt and garlic. You might get into something besides cats out there, but it's all good.
Keep some aside and skewer em ahead of time just in case.
eatmordonuts 07-25-2007, 07:37 Well, I ended the night without a fish.....I think it was more the place I chose rather then the bait. I was getting alot of bites, where as the others fishing in the area were getting nothing. So I'm thinking, the small ones were active last night , they would pick it and run, but as soon as they felt any resistance, they dropped it. I probally shoulda stayed longer, bigger ones might've started biting later.
lifestudent55 07-25-2007, 09:29 Where were you fishing?
flatlander 07-25-2007, 09:38 Where were you fishing?
code for what county ? LOL
you'uns
Now I know you have been in S. IL to long.
I had never heard that word until I moved down here, and I have live in a few different area's of the country as well as Okinawa for a year and Korea for about 3 months.
Bob what do you call a stocking cap ?

Well truthfully it isn't far off from Pittsburghese --- Yuns (Ex. When are yuns comin over for the game?)
A stocking cap...
I use pop instead of coke or soda
Sack instead of bag, Montana thing, same with till instead of Cash register.
lifestudent55 07-25-2007, 10:20 I grew up hearing "you'uns" in southern Indiana. Yeah, I'm a transplanted hoosier, but not the St. Louis type. I admit that I've got some family members that think Jeff Foxworthy does documentaries instead of comedy, and some of them thought Hee Haw was home movies.:D
And I was just curious what lake or river, not gps coordinates or anything like that.

Central Il is the same, Pop not soda or coke.
Never really thought about the sack or bag.
They call a stocking cap a toboggan over this way.
I thought they wanted to go sledding first time I heard it. LOL
eatmordonuts 07-25-2007, 11:06 Still in Nebraska......be there (SI) no later then September, but still babysitting the house here for awhile. The local fishing around Columbus leaves alot to be desired
lifestudent55 07-25-2007, 12:31 You won't have that problem here in southern Illinois. There are lots of places for fishing. While Illinois has screwed up several other things, their fisheries programs are very successful.
Hi all I am a new member here and also a member of the BOC. this is the first thread I have looked at on here and looks very intersting to me. As for the garlic shrimp they work great. best when used drift fishing with about a 1/0 circle hook. :)
lifestudent55 07-25-2007, 17:44 I lil kat. Welcome aboard.
Is a circle hook like a mustad hook? Looks like we're going to have to try garlic shrimp the next time we go out.

Many diffrent companies make circle hooks(gameagutzu, Eagle claw, ect) Ahelpful hint when using these hooks is they are EXTREAMLLY SHARP!!!!! So if you do use them take extra caution baiting and handling them.:D
Circle hooks are great for live bait fishing... especially if you plan to release any of your catch unharmed. Circle hooks are designed, so that you really don't need the classic hookset... reel into em, sweep the rod, and they will be hooked in the corner of the mouth almost always. Allowing for easy hook removal.

flatlander 07-26-2007, 09:09 Your a hooker, Bob ?
LOL, sorry couldn't resist. :D

LOL, sorry couldn't resist. :D
And you're a NIMROD :p
flatlander 07-26-2007, 09:30 And you're a NIMROD :p
Thats some kind of fishing pole right ?
Looks like flatlander got ya on this one.......
def. of nimrod....kinda fits flatlander....he survived the flood......on flatland and was a mighty hunter.......lol.......
Mention of Nimrod in the Bible is rather limited. He is called the first to become "a mighty one on the earth" and "the mighty hunter before Yahweh." He is said to be the founder and king of the first empire after the Flood.
That's why I called him that... Though many don't know the true history... I was gonna let him stew awhile see if he knew it was actually a compliment...
gretchensteele 07-26-2007, 12:26 well, I'm going to test this garlic shrimp thing this weekend...we'll see what kind of luck I have! Nimrod ROFL...my brothers were always calling each other that....
We did too....we called each other lots of names.......lol......I was just teasin about it.....
lifestudent55 07-26-2007, 13:28 Yeah, most of us thought Bugs was calling Elmer stupid by calling him Nimrod, but he was referring to Elmer being a mighty hunter. In his case it was probably sarcastic though. As y'all have pointed out calling someone Nimrod isn't an insult.
gretchensteele 07-26-2007, 13:47 As y'all have pointed out calling someone Nimrod isn't an insult.
boy will that news dissapoint my brothers...
Thats some kind of fishing pole right ?
Yup you got it... You're a pole alright...:D
Smokey Mc Pot 07-26-2007, 15:47 well, I'm going to test this garlic shrimp thing this weekend...we'll see what kind of luck I have! Nimrod ROFL...my brothers were always calling each other that....
if you are fishing the city lake gretchen tehn you will catch alot of bull heads and small ones at that they love the shrimp but we used plain ones so maybe the garlic would work
the garlic shrimp will catch bull heads as well as channels too
