I seen some in shallow water along the edge in a little shallow cove today. They had the muddy bottom dished out that looked like bowls about ten inches across and about 4 inched deep and where sitting in them. There looked to be 20-30 of the in a spot about 10 foot in diameter. Is it not the wrong time of the year for this??:confused::confused::confused::con fused:

Absolutely in my humble opinion. This has been a screwy year though and maybe the recent cool stretch got them back in that prespawn mode. Odd.

A second spawn? Hmmmm, that would throw things off a bit for their life cycle, wouldn't it? The guy at A1 bait and tackle was telling me the bulls were on the beds watching the babies at Pit 3. I didn't get close enough to any of the beds to see what gender was on the beds or if they were guarding babies or prepping to lay more eggs.
Well, here is my idea... down at Becks a few weeks back the water was up over the parking area. Now that the water is down, you can see where the beds were in the parking lot... like lil potholes... maybe they had to relocate/retry after the water drop???

Bluegill do typically spawn 2-3 times per year. The first spawn however is the one that is dependent on rising temps which why such a high percentage of gills are spawning at the same time and us fisherman take notice. The other spawns later in the year are triggered by factors that I will not pretend to totally understand. I think these secondary spawns are what you guys have stumbled upon. It has been a weird year though, so who knows.
ive also head of gills spawning a few times a year.
