i was mowing a field down today and I looked into the grass on the left of the tractor and not 4' from my rear tire a fawn was laying there, in about 3' tall grass. If it weren't for it flicking it's ear I probably wouldn't have seen it, i was even able to stay there for about 20 seconds before I left and it didn't move. I went all the way around the field before coming back to that spot 9maybe 30 minutes or so) and when I got close to where I had seen it I was looking very closely for it, it scared the hell out of me when it jumped up right in front of the tractor (I even hit it with the front edge of my front end loader bucket) it was so close. It ran a long ways before it reached the woods and never did slow down or look back.
My dad actually hit one with a bushhog once, he said it made an aweful racket.
