View Full Version : JULY 25 SILO Bowfishing Outing
OK, I got lots of requests for another shoot. I think July 25 will work! Again we'll shoot the Kaskaskia out of New Athens. I'll try to put together a flyer and post it here so you guys can print it out and post it where you see fit.
11am - 5 pm is the time $10 entry per fisher, optional $5 big fish pot.
I'll keep everyone posted here as to future developments!

Yeah that was on reports from the last shoot/. It was getting good as we were quitting. Now this should be prime time for day shooters. :) River is down to normal again (for now:rolleyes:)
I have not shot at night. Just need the funds to set up Ol' Ugly. I'm sure it would open up a whole new world!

Along that vane...Is there any good way to get from Carlyle to New Athens? The last time we tried, I think it took longer to go that 40 miles than it did from home to Carlyle.
I been trying to find the quickest way to get in that area for several months.... every way I go it takes 1.75 hrs from marion co. I don't think there is really a quick way of getting there...lol

gretchensteele 07-04-2009, 11:08 There really isn't a particularly quick and direct route.. the way I run the blacktops would probably drive most of you mad...

That's what I was afraid of. LOL

It's going to take about an hour or so. There is no direct route. aaa.com came up with a much shorter and quicker route than google, though it does route you on county roads part of the way.
I gotta guy who needs a spot in a boat. Anyone, anyone, Bueller.

Add to that.. I've got two photogs from IN that would like to ride along with some one too! :D
carpsniper 07-14-2009, 23:15 Well we heard back from the camp. There was a short time when they thought it might get cancelled...(Which would have made our schedule easier)
But we're glad they didn't.
Now for the bad news. Our portion of the camp will be from 4-6pm. So we won't be able to stay for the whole shoot. We are going to try very hard to get there a bit early and see everyone off. (maybe shoot a fish or two ourselves before heading back to Carlyle)
slew rat 07-16-2009, 16:19 we will be there - this will be our first tourney - so go easy on us

My phone has been ringing for the last 2 weeks, and I'm still fielding call each evening. Looks like we'll be having a REAL good turn out!
DetectDave 07-23-2009, 13:18 Dang BigDuke, that photo shot gets me fired up too and I can't even be there Saturday.

got it beat.
I have repacked wheel bearing on the boat trailer (hadn't been done in 10 years ), checked the lights and changed both bulbs even put the 2012 decal on the boat and finally put the 09 sticker on the plate (that has been sitting on the desk for about 4 months. lol
Both the trailer tires where dry rotted (one was flat) bought one new and used what use to be the spare (still new) for the other replacement.
The motor hadn't even been started in about 3 years so I put new plugs in, fresh gas in the can even bought a new fire extinguisher
(around $13 @ WM).
Believe it or not it started on the first pull. :D
If nothing else I have the boat ready to go out for the rest of the summer. lol
hoping to make it just to cruise around and video some because as of yet I dont have a bowf

So the elusive flatlander is going to show, I'll have to be there just to meet you flat!
I hope there's not too many of ya in a 12' jon boat, or it's fairly wide, the boat traffic in the summer can get a little crowded (= big wakes),

Yeah Flat I was thinking the same thing..... I had an 18.5' air-born, motor and all last time there over a Huge wake... :) Was going a little fast though..just ask Coyote Killer..
flatlander 07-23-2009, 21:19 I was wondering how the Kaskaskia was never been to or on it, may be better off leaving the USS minnow at home. lol
I'm not 100% sure I'll make it, want to just not sure if its something I want to do by myself with a 9,10 & 12 y.o.
elusive flatlander
lol elusive is right. ;)
gretchensteele 07-24-2009, 06:39 Hey guys and gals.. I've still got two photogs from IN that are looking for a boat to tag along in.. and no, they don't have to be in the same boat....
If anybody has some extra room, they'd sure appreciate being able to ride along..
Getting Ready..;)

Gosh I thought we were about set up for bowfishing now but after seeing those "war heads" maybe were not..:D
The "war heads" are just what came with my setup.. There's several other bowfishing points that work just fine..Muzzy, Cajun etc.. The AMS you got should work just fine!
Here's a link that shows many different variations: http://www.bowfishingextreme.com/ItemsForSale/Points/bowfishing_points.htm
I'm goin out on a limb here.... But I'm callin 20 boats
carpsniper 07-25-2009, 23:39 And the final total was....???
We just got home. It was great to see a few more SILOians. And as a kicker, I finally got my SILO pin! Whooo Hooo! I got a great laugh when "Team SILO" was pulling away from the dock and G was talking about them..."fussing". Then they turned in unison and said "We're brothers." Did you guys rehearse that? LOL
I'm really sad we couldn't stay a shoot with ya, but the campers were waiting. We thought we had plenty of time we weren't totally ready when they showed up. What's worse, I don't think we got one picture of it. (kinda busy)
Anyway, I hope all got back safe and had a great time.
gretchensteele 07-26-2009, 07:13 Carp I was tickled to death when I saw you guys walk up! It was great day...well okay.. the fish weren't as cooperative as last time...
we had a total of 15 boats and 32 shooters. Every seemed to really have a good time.. special thanks to Illinois Bowfishers and BASI for donating such great door prizes.. they were a big hit!
I have the stats, but have to dig them out.. I just dumped my backpack on the dining room table I'll hav eto sort through stuf. It and I were both soooo covered in carp slime...
And if Adam tells you I whacked him with a silver.. It WAS NOT ON PURPOSE! I seriously did not intend to assault him with a carp!
I'm working on pics now.. but will post the ones of the boys shooting the silvers out of the air just as a teaser LOL

Adam, are ya OK buddy? Just be glad she wasn't swingin' the hubble! ROTFL That'll teach ya not to get "fussy"!
Was nice to meet all you ya that were there. The BASI was glad to have helped even got some new members out of the tourney and am glad to hear everyone enjoyed the tourney and the door prizes that were brought.
we had problems with the boat we was gonna bring so i went to the tourney boat less and team less for this one but i said i was gonna be there and i wasnt about to back out. Thanks to the team i jumped in with we had a good day even though we only shot 7 or 8 fish all weighing in under 4 pounds and that was the total of all the fish we shot lmao
