View Full Version : Illinois Caverns..
FunGusAmonGus 06-14-2009, 12:28 Got to go here the other day. I just went to the entrance. The map says it goes for six miles. I think much of it you would have to crawl but I think you can walk upright for several miles.

Been way in there many times with my dad. Use to make it an annual thing until it just wasn't explorin' anymore. Fun if you don't mind confinement.
FunGusAmonGus 06-14-2009, 12:33 Did you know Arman? I got to haul several of his old cars off.
Just in passing. My dad knew him better due to him taking the science club kids from school there every year.

Did the rock formation in picture 7 have a name or did you just notice it looked like a bird ?

Not that know of. It does look like a bird! I was wanting to show that there is a little creek running through it and you will get wet. I think it gets pretty flooded in the wet season. I was surprised it was only this full.
I really want to go there sometime....
Been to a cavern or two in every state I've been too....except IL........
Looks like a COOL place...:D
stonecracker59 06-14-2009, 16:10 Nice place to explore and nice and cool I bet. Howard

You mean to tell me I'm the only one that noticed a bird, must be from all my years as a trained observer. lol
I thought that was why you took the picture.
Some buds and I visited that cave many years ago...I'm sure it was Armin that gave us a tour.
FunGusAmonGus 06-14-2009, 19:51 He had kinda bushy eye brows. He was a great guy. Kind of a recluse, but would help you anyway he could. He had another cave near here but I think its pretty much off limits. I believe some teenagers drown there in the late "70's".
ridn4free 06-14-2009, 20:10 there is actually a nice cave in Giant city, it was closed years ago. my Dad use to tell me of one when he was a small boy and lived there at the Elder family farm

Gary Bartlow 07-01-2009, 15:07 I was thinking that it was probably closed with the other caves in our area
