I wanted to try that, but ended up having to work the night the fam went. Looks like a tripod is necessary?
I didn't use a tripod, I had some that came out blurry of course..
I also have a firework setting but they come out really blurry on it so I don't use it......
Here are some more I took...

Pretty good for no tripod!
Since so many got rained out ...me included...
here's a few tips about taking killer fireworks shots...just in case we get another chance over the next few days...
1. tripods are really a must...
2. remote, timer, cable release, or some such..just pressing the shutter can cause shake. If you have no remote or timer, there's method using a black card I'll explain shortly...
3. Use you manual settings if at possible - these require long exposures! If you have the option for bulb ...use it!
4. if you don't have the option for bulb any where froma 4 - 12 or 15 second exposure...focused to infinity at about f8.0 - f11...
Here's how I do it....
Set up the camera and tripod,
focus (manually) to infinity...set it bulb, use my remote..when I hear the whistle from ittakeing off I click to open the shuutter and then usally give it about 5 -6 seconds at least then click the remote to close the shutter.
If you don't have remote and you have bulb or even a very long exposure setting, hold a piece of black card close over the lens, push the shutter down, remove the card, and count down four anywhere from 4 - 10 seconds and the put the black card back in from of the lens and push the shutter button again to stop the shot/close the shutter.
It takes a little trial and error to get the exposure times down...I've even used a really long exposure, like 15 - 18 seconds, and flipped the black card on and off and four second intervals to get some cool looking stuff...
Wish I had some from last night to post but the deluge killed that...hoping somebody will have some make up ones this weekend...or in the next couple of nights.....
Kewl...thanks for the tips!
It started rainning like 2 mins. after they got over......lol! Perfect timing I guess.....
