LOL...very funny...
Rend Lake does remind me of Carlyle Lake kinda...Don't wanna be out on Rend in a storm....
We went fishing at the Green Heron little pond in South Marcum Campground and caught a couple bass everynight...biggest one prolly around 3lbs...

After seeing those pics i had to make a trip out there. My parents were in town from California so we made a day of going out to Rend Lake and did some swimmin and fished a little. We started out at North Sandusky and caught alot of little hybrid bass about the size of bluegill. Was pretty funny how small they were. Then we headed over to South Marcum area. Really nice back there. Didnt get no fish there but still had a good time. Camp grounds were really nice too, we checked those out. From a first person view pretty cool place. And it was better than Carlyle

Yes, Rend is a lot better than Carlyle. More fishing coves. It's smaller, but I'll take Rend over Carlyle any day.

We're heading over to Rend Sunday to camp 3 nights (and fish all day). You're right about not wanting to be on either lake in a storm. It doesn't take much wind at all to kick up some really big waves. We were on Carlyle this past Saturday fighting some big swells on the pontoon.

Speaking of Rend, I wonder if the state park is still open with the state not having a budget bill. I saw where Blago said for everyone to go ahead and work, that they'd get paid eventially. That's what happens when you sidetrack the legislators by trying to get them to pass gun control laws when they're supposed to be working on a budget.

Those are some sweet pictures Bambam. Now I can hardly wait till we get out there Sunday. We've never been below the dam at Rend.

I too wonder how long state workers will stay on the job withot a budget...last nights news he issued a statement that he would do a temp budget so they can continue to pay state workers...the Southern reported that SIU workers will be paid at least through August...SIUC has money set aside for this ...they evidently saw it coming. The southern also reported that state parks would stay open at least through the 8th....this is just a sad, sad, commentary on our present admin...

Several years ago we visited friends in in IN - when we went to visit several state parks, they weren't closed per se, but area residents had taken over the maintainence etc. they were essentially operated in a limited fashion by folks in the area who cared...wonder if that what's will end up happening here?

We're coming back the 8th, so if we decide to stay at the state park we should be ok then.

Where in IN? What parks did you go to? I grew up in IN and most of our vacations were spent camping (pop-up) in state parks.

so can the workers tell the people who they owe money to the same thing??? Like the bank , insurance co, and the taxes.....

"area resident had to take over maintainence etc. " so do they get to hunt the restricted areas also??????

Thanks guys, I took all those while I was camping the month of June. We left right before the 1st of July and it was still overflowing then. I don't know about now. LOE dam hasn't overflowed in a long time. LOL>

I am glad you had a good trip to Rend. South Marcum is my favorite. I think everyone knows this now. But it seems to be more secluded in certain areas. You can also reserve them all besides Whispering Pines. That is where we stayed at this last time and it was really nice. We stayed forever!!!! I think I have more pics somewhere......Or Ill look on here and bump em....

Keep in mind the north side is state and the south side is federal.

All the parks up there are federal besides Wanye Fitsgerald State Park on the North Side.

I am not sure....I would say...I was fishing in a little jon boat at I got stopped by the conservation officer on the water right out by South Marcum which is federal and was asked for my fishing licenses. I guess he didn't think I would have em I dont know....He asked and asked about everything...Luckily we where up to snuff:D ..but he was trying to find something wrong....

"area resident had to take over maintainence etc. " so do they get to hunt the restricted areas also??????

I honestly couldn't tell you...but since they were the caretakers, the ones who were the stewards for land they didn't want to see dissappear or be gobbled up by some crazed developer......and essentially the state had abandoned the park...who would even be the one to designate what was and wasn't restricted? hmmmm???
