Decoy of the year...and I know the fella what marketed it to BPS...:D Griswold 04-02-2009, 14:57 never use them. LaFore 04-02-2009, 16:33 thats what we have the pretty boy and pretty girl they do good i think Bob 04-02-2009, 16:57 I have a flambeau hen and my Montana full strut... Adam has some too we can mix in, but I've killed birds with this set up numerous times.... You may see some here.;) http://www.guidesandlodges.com/mcpherson/PhotosTurkey/go xOZx 04-02-2009, 18:25 never use them. Hear ya. Wacked two out of three with no decoy...:D ihunt-4-me 04-02-2009, 19:04 When bowhunting I use just two hens set at 20 & 25 yards. When gun hunting sometimes I'll throw in a half strut jake to pi$$ old tom off. I've tried a lot of set ups and these work for me. To date I have seven bow kills and five by gun. Think about it, season starts in less than a week, hard to wait!! Already have seen a couple of toms all henned up in love. Good luck to all. stormn75 04-02-2009, 19:44 I WOULD NOT!!!!!! use a strutting tom unless you KNOW the bird you are hunting is the big stud in the woods trust me when I say this lesser birds will RUN from it. Now having said that I do think a jake decoy would work in the same manner at some point in the season but I will just use hens if I use decoys at all flatlander 04-02-2009, 21:45 I have a flambeau hen and my Montana full strut... Must have been prior to the SILO hats ? I have a real tail fan for the pretty boy and it's going to be a pain to carry along with the other gear I will have. ihunt-4-me 04-02-2009, 21:55 flat can you carry that fan in the back of your vest? flatlander 04-02-2009, 22:21 flat can you carry that fan in the back of your vest? I could if I had a vest. lol One of the few things I dont own. YIKES Chance of snow Monday guess Iwont be getting hot in the blind. ihunt-4-me 04-03-2009, 05:58 I could if I had a vest. lol One of the few things I dont own. YIKES Chance of snow Monday guess Iwont be getting hot in the blind. I didn't have one for the first couple of years, then bought one of Wallyworld's clearance items after season. I use it a lot to carry my decoys, even though once in the blind I take it off. Weather can't be much worse than youth season. Bob 04-03-2009, 06:53 I WOULD NOT!!!!!! use a strutting tom unless you KNOW the bird you are hunting is the big stud in the woods trust me when I say this lesser birds will RUN from it. I respectfully disagree... I've had jakes come running into my set ups, big toms, and everything in between. :p Joe 04-03-2009, 08:28 Stormn75- I'm with Bob on this one. I used the Primos B-Mobile for the first time last year and we had two jakes run in and plummet that thing. Whipped ol' B-mobile's arsk. I use B-Mobile with 2 hens on private ground where there isn't much pressure. On hard hunted public ground like Shawnee NF I don't take a decoy with me at all. I think the pressured birds down there are onto the decoys as they always seem to hang up or vacate the premisis when they see the deeks. I just sneak in as close as I can to a gobbler and try to set up in some real thick stuff to where he can't see too far and has to come in and try to find the hen. I usually just use soft putts on purrs and do a little scratching in the leaves...good tactic on pressured birds. Joe cuiuc28 04-03-2009, 08:58 I am using the Redhead strutting tom and my buddy took it to a taxidermist and had him paint the head more realistic and we put some real feathers and fans on it. It looks great and I will try and put a picture on here. xOZx 04-03-2009, 09:32 I am using the Redhead strutting tom and my buddy took it to a taxidermist and had him paint the head more realistic and we put some real feathers and fans on it. Good Luck! flatlander 04-03-2009, 09:36 Like I said, it was Decoy of the year at the show I heard. How about that beard? is that real or what? With a real fan on there, it's golden! Good Luck! Nice rod quote OZ but you left out the bleeping part. lol :D stormn75 04-03-2009, 12:57 I'm just not a fan of decoys I would rather just call a bird and make him look for me decoys only seem to work at one point in the season and if you put them out and have a bird run from it you wont want to use it again xOZx 04-03-2009, 19:05 Nice rod quote OZ but you left out the bleeping part. lol :D LOL! I am law abiding...unlike the orginal quoteee...:D Rasputin 04-29-2009, 12:02 In regard to transporting a turkey fan. I take a piece of cardboard. I cut it about 3/4 greater than the width of the fan. I then "fold" the edges over and staple on 3 sides. This makes a "sleeve" to slide the fan in to. Fits in the back of my vest fine. flatlander 04-29-2009, 14:06 In regard to transporting a turkey fan. I take a piece of cardboard. I cut it about 3/4 greater than the width of the fan. Rasputin 04-29-2009, 14:34 The "gap" that is created on the back side of the sleeve is perfect for pulling the fan in from its base. It has really worked well for me. BTW I realize I am a "noobie" on this site. I tend to read FAR more than I post. I did however kill my best bird ever on Sunday, April 19. I sat for 5 hours in the rain. Around 10:30 the rain cleared out. To make a long story short, at 12:15 I took a 25# bird with an 11 1/2 inch beard and 1 1/4 inch spurs... Made the wait worth it. cttgarcia03 04-30-2009, 18:37 I am using the B-Mobile and a hen. Almost bought the pretty boy and girl but a little too bulky for me to tote around. This year was the first time I have used the B-Mobile and I killed a nice one on my first day out with a 10.75 in. beard. Will post pics of him in just a min. |
