I'm game. Just need a date and place to go... and remember this IS NOT a tournament for legal purposes. This is a friendly gathering to fish and bet $$$

The old part of Pyramid looks real nice. They have several small pits that would be easy to negotiate if you have a small boat.

josh
03-30-2009, 10:44
We should do it in late april early may.
Pyramid sounds good or Pinckneyville city lake as there are some whoppers in there and its a pretty decent sized lake

Bob

Maybe after the Bowfishing Tourney May 9th... Before then a lot of people are turkey hunting...

I'm up for PSP or P'ville lake...

Josh in my experience it's better to just throw out a who, what where and see what happens from there.....

Who:
Maybe do at least one silo member on the 2 man team???
What:
Bass Fishing!
Price:
10 bucks a person to enter and 5 extra if u want in the big bass pot?
Time:
8-2?
Where:
I can make a poll to ask pyramid or Pville? And have it run 7 days!

When: April/May someone throw out a date! April 11th? May 2nd?

Also need to look at other silo events going on at that time....The Illinois Bowfishers is April18-19th and the BAI shoot is May 9th ...also the turkey hunters will be busy as well....Anyone know of anything else going on ?

josh
03-31-2009, 02:29
sounds good to me, Although i dont know how pyramid would work as there are a BUNCH of lakes there and even more potholes you drag your boat into.
Anyone who has fished Pville knows the amount of NICE fish in there.
I think Pville would have better results compared to the past 2 tourneys where only a few fish were even weighed.Dont qoute me on this but i do beleive it was ranked in the top 5 or 10? best bass fishing lakes in illinois for awhile

I'd suggest after May 9th Cause of Turkey hunting..and the Bowfishing tourn...

I vote for Pyramid & camp out..

gretchensteele

The April date is Easter weekend.. , and having one the week before the bowfishing tournament might drop the numbers as well.. as folks might have to pick between the two instead having something going on each weekend..

I agree with Duke - after May 9th.. after the bowfishing tournament.
Oh and be aware that Pyramid has ONLY primitive camp sites. There are no electric ones, no showers etc.. But there are some really nice ones :)

Since it's not a sanctioned tournament - more of fishing derby /fun fishing day it wouldn't really matter if everyone was on the same lake in pyramid..

Oh and the 16th - Time Out in Coulterville is having a Fishing Derby.. so maybe after that as well, but we could pass out flyers at the fishing derby and maybe pick up a few more entrants.

For those unfamiliar with how a Fishing Derby works (at least over here LOL)
everyone signs up ahead of time and meets before daylight at the hosting establishment.. then scatters to fish where ever they want.. then all must be back in by usually noon.. there are prizes for biggest fish and biggest mess over all, biggest fish and biggest mess by species. All fish brought in are cleaned on site and eaten there! Usually the bar and regular patrons all make and bring the side dishes.. It's always a good time :) Lots of other odds and ends of prizes etc as well. usually they do Bass, Bluegill, catfish and crappie and snappers.. I've never won for fish LOL but I have taken the turtle division a couple of times ROFL..

04-01-2009, 16:07
If you fish pinkneyville city lake you could only catch one bass which would have to be over 21 inches.. i think... So would it just be a competition where the biggest bass wins.... i mean its not like a 5 fish tourny its more of a big bass tourny???

BAM
04-01-2009, 16:10

Keep trying to get on here, but most of the time I'm at work (like now) so I get the chance to read a little, but not much time to respond.

Sounds good Bird!! we never got the chance to get out agian last summer with all the junk happening on my end, so will be big time looking forward to this!

DD, we have a Catfishing trip to take!

I'm not sure who a person could talk to about P'ville lake, but the last time I fished a tourney there, it was a 5 fish limit at least 15 in. I believe they do this for tourneys since its catch and release.

pdsink
04-02-2009, 09:22
Well yes.. if your going to have an official tourny then you could probably do it. But if your just going to have some people come and have a good time i think you would have to stick with the 1 fish over 18 inches....

josh
04-02-2009, 13:17
The problem with Pyramid is some people with have an unfair advantage of being able to get in the hike in/drag in lakes, not a big deal to me but it might be to some ppl

P'duck
04-02-2009, 14:38
I would be interested in either however I have a motor above 10hp. What about say Rend and camp there or Carlyle? Depending upon the water body a trolling motor might work?

Sounds like a fun thing to partake in.

I would say that the best option for Pyramid is Super Lake, and that lake only. But I can't stand that lake so I wouldn't go for Pyramid. I would give my preference to Pinkneyville.

josh
04-02-2009, 18:35
I think we shud do as Bob said and have the picture thing just as a fun wager, and then keep the biggest bass for the money. Pville city lake is awesome for big bass if you know where to look and what to throw.
Pyramid is a tough place to catch any decent sized bass, ive been fishing there for about 8 yrs now and the biggest bass ive seen pulled out of there was around 5 lbs.
Pville i can throw one tip out there and it is using a black w/ blue flake tube.
Lots of points and wood on the lake with deep water, like i said its an awesome lake and for most of you who havent fished it the first you do you will fall in love with it

Bob
04-03-2009, 07:18
Ok Lets just say it IS at P'ville City Lake. That part is done. Now pick a day!

I still may camp down a P'mid for the weekend...

Bob
04-03-2009, 14:57
I do too, (40hp) but I got a troller, or I might just bring the canoe? More people have access to some small boat/canoe/bassbuggy/ dinghy than a kick ass bass boat w/ twin 250's too...

What are all the members w/ tiny boats supposed to do?

This ain't BASS FLW thing here... we're SILO!!!!

P'duck
04-03-2009, 17:45
I have a 40hp and no trolling motor but will have to get one. I do not want to miss the fun so if nothing else I will get an inntertube and float around.

Now the camping sounds like fun as well.

Oh ok I thought yours was over 10hp...I think everyone had over 10hp at the last tourney didn't they? ...also Ours and P-ducks is over now too so just wondering what you guys usually do about being over the limit...

We fished crab, egypt, rend, and several other places in a little 14ft jon with a 9.9 :D

Bam maybe you can borrow somebody'd trolling motor for the tournament?
Since it's more of a fun fishing thing than a regular sanctioned tournament.. I think lots with the smaller boats/canoes/kayaks and motors would be more likely to attend as they won't need all the stuff that that you need for a big bass tourny..

On Pville Trolling motor is all that is needed...
Theres is a secret spot to launch small boats with no trailer bout halfway down the lake.probably where ill put in and come to the boat ramp. concrete has done a number on the boat and put a hole in the stern the size of a Pea.
I have run around that lake all day on a full charge and at Top Speed... if anyone else wants to put in there let me know and ill tell you how

Bob

05-12-2009, 14:27
OK its time to crap or get off the pot. Let's do this this thing this weekend on Saturday, May 16th at Pinckneyville City Lake. Since there is a 1 fish limit just make the entry fee $15 b/c if you have the winning weight you will also have big fish. I have a scale and a weigh bag we can use for the weigh in.

I say we start at 0700 and end at 1300.

OK place, date, and time set. Who is in?

Joe
05-19-2009, 10:38
Well, we had a great turn out...not! Shooter and I were the only ones who showed up! LOL! The weather sucked. Cold north wind and misting rain. We still caught some though. We both caught 1 bass each between 4 and 5 lbs. Shooter caught his on a spinnerbait...I caught mine on a jig and pig. Caught several other smaller fish. Shooter ended the day with a about a 12 lb channel cat on a Zoom Brush Hawg. He thought he had the state record largemouth on!! It was fun even though nobody showed. Hard to get everybody's schedules together for one of these things I guess.

Joe
05-19-2009, 15:28
It wasn't too bad right at 7:00 Saturday morning but, man, when that front pushed through about 9:00 or 10:00, and it was misting rain, we were freezing our arses off. Neither of us brought a jacket...I was in shorts!

We talked to a guy that lives on Pinckneyville Lake and he said that about 4 years ago they had a huge bass kill on the lake...said it was so bad the ILDNR had to come out and scoop up all the dead bass. He said the lake is just now coming back. He said 6-7 years ago the bass fishing in their was phenominal. It should only get better with that 18" size limit.

Joe
