I recently purchased a floating light for night fishing. Have any of you ever tried this? If so any tips would be great. I figured I might try using it for crappie. Don't know if it would work for many other species.

BOOYAH 06-18-2007, 17:46 I've never used the floating one but I have used the submersible green lights and they work great. They light the shore outline in clear water so you can see to cast,I think the floating white light should work for crappie just fine. huntrz 06-18-2007, 21:24 We used to use them for white bass at Carlyle, at Keysport under the train bridge and below the dam. At the Keysport we would anchor near the bridge where the current was a little stronger near the old river channel, we would hang a minnow with just enough weight to keep it tight at varying depths, you would catch some stragglers like this, but when a school would move in you could switch to a 3" white curly tail grub. Below the dam we would tie up to the cable, put our lights on the down current side and hang our minnows across the cable, the current would drift your minnow under the boat and under the lights. I have some friends that used this method on Greers Ferry in Arkansas for big hybrid stripers, they used to go in the hottest days of the year, sleep all day and fish all night, one friend's mom caught a 17 lb, hybrid like this. I have also tried it in strip pits for crappie, works great. Good Luck! Bob 06-19-2007, 03:06 Good tips. I have one of these I bought in the clearance aisle in WM a few years ago, and never got it out of the box. I had to buy it as it only cost $2. carpsniper 06-19-2007, 10:36 Works great for rough fish.
