Too bad. Still, it does make for an entertaining video.

Those bighead carp sure are ugly. I'm for anything or anyone who will clean those out of the rivers.

I know snagging isn't supposed to be legal there, but last year a guy was snagging a bunch of them and giving them away to whoever would take them. I cooked up some of them. The only problem was the bones. I didn't get the meat scored deep enough.

Oh yeah, and nobody was going to tell that out-of-towner than snagging was illegal. We were all just glad to see some of those nuisances cleaned out of there.

yeah i heard that if you clean em up and smoke em as soon as you catch em than it'll help with the bones. but i ain't about to try it!

They'd probably be good smoked. Roll 'em up tight, make sure they're dry, but I sure ain't sticking that ugly puss in my mouth, and I sure ain't sticking its tookus in my mouth. :D

Back to reality, they probably would taste good smoked. They didn't taste bad panfried, but we did have to contend with the bones. I'd never cooked any kind of carp before, so I didn't score deep enough to cut through all the bones, and it probably would've been better deep fried to help with the bones.

What kind of bones they got in em? Could you fillet em with a electeric fillet knife? I know if they are like bass they have HUGE rib bones but a electeric knife works well for them. I have never cleaned ANY carp in my life I usually let em go or kill em an trash em.

If you smoke them long enough the bones turn to mush and you will have no problem eating them.

They've got real fine pin bones in the meat itself as well as the standard bones. The idea is to score the meat about every 1/8th inch cutting just through the bones before frying it and because the bones are so fine they are no longer a problem.

How long to you smoke 'em?

If you make sure they're dried out they should stay lit. As ugly as they are though, I still don't know which end to light.

That looks dangerous...enough to scare the carp out of you! lol
