Well Josh, being a married man who plans to stay that way, I'd have a hard time working that kind of cash out of the budget for a fishing rod. That being said, what is or isn't a good deal depends on the perceived value it has to you.

I like all star rods but since they have discontinued their lifetime warrantee I stay away. I don't care how nice a rd is eventually you'll break it. I love Fenwick Elite Tech rods. They are the best. I bought a 7'6" flippin stick on ebay a month ago for 99$! As for the curado, they are the best reel for the money out there. I prefer quantum but i have always like the shimano curado.

I used to use a curado all the time but I've fallen in love with the Johnny Morris Signature and Elite series reels. They're close to the same price range too.
